ECiv B111C Physics for Engineers
This course introduces fundamental concepts and analytical techniques in engineering mechanics, focusing on:
- Equilibrium of a rigid body – Equilibrium in 2D and Free Body Diagram (FBD).
- Friction – Dry Friction: Explore static and kinetic friction, analyzing its effects on mechanical systems like wedges, screws, and belts.
- Truss – Method of Joints: Analyze truss structures, applying equilibrium equations at joints to determine forces and identify tension or compression.
- Truss – Method of Sections: Use the method of sections to efficiently calculate internal forces in specific members by analyzing critical sections.
- Frame and Machine Analysis: Study forces and reactions in frames and machine s, distinguishing between stationary and moving systems.
- Centroid: Determine centroids of shapes and composite bodies and apply them in structural design and bending stress analysis.
- Moment of Inertia: Understand and calculate the moment of inertia for various shapes to assess resistance to bending and rotation.
- This course provides essential problem-solving skills for real-world engineering applications.
