Historically, the natural forests in our region are undergoing unplanned over-cutting and grazing activities to supply cultivation lands, charcoal, firewood and fodder resources. More recently they became under mass tourist pressure. Consequently, the natural forests are unable to fulfill their main functions of protection of soil from erosion and ameliorate severe climate conditions.

Tree planting is a positive effort in curbing the over-use and destruction of natural forests If done with proper planning and at appropriate sites. Tree planting can become a viable resource for many human needs by providing a wide range of wood and non-wood products thus, reduce the pressure on the coexisted natural forests.

This course will consider different tree planting topics starting with planting plans and ending with post-planting requirements, considering the main biotic and abiotic factors that determine planting success. These will make students better qualified to successfully undertake plantation projects under our region climate conditions, including planting for recreation and ecotourism purposes.
