- Tree breeding programs are designed to develop genetically improved varieties used for reforestation and afforestation, looking to increase the economic, environmental or social valued of a forest, the latest being an integral component of most programs around the world - Review of tree breeding and conservation in the context of applied breeding programmers. The course connects elements of economics, quantitative genetics and tree multiplication practices for the design of tree improvement projects and the conservation of their genetic resources. - The purpose of this course is to familiarise participants with basic and advanced tree breeding concepts and tree breeding related genetics disciplines. Lectures will give insight into how genetic variation among population and trees be explored for tree improvement program and to obtain long-term genetic advances of tree breeding program. |
