ES4104 Urban Planning

This course explores important substantive areas and concepts in the field of urban planning , overview of the prominent theories of urban planning practice, historical development of urban planning, and current urban planning and policy issues and debates in general and specifically in the context.

 Course Learning Objectives Upon successful completion of the course:

 Students will be able to: 1. understand why  urban planning is undertaken by communities, cities, regions, and nations. 2. understand the growth and development of places over time and across space, including the evolution of the social and spatial structure of urban agglomerations,  3. the importance of the natural (e.g. climate, topography, available construction materials) and man-made (e.g. political, religious, economic, security,,) determinants of urban form. And provide an overview of the various fields within planning, such as housing, community development, transportation, environmental planning, urban sprawl and growth management
